HEMPHILL, TX – The Patricia Huffman Smith NASA Museum in Hemphill, Texas is excited to announce the upcoming debut of a Space Shuttle Simulator in our Digital Learning Classroom.
Retired NASA engineer James Dean from Colorado is building and donating the simulator. Dean is avid space enthusiast who took flying lessons growing up. He later worked with astronauts such as Buzz Aldrin and Gene Cernan on projects like the payload/crew interfaces.
Dean has previously built and installed ten simulators that are full-sized, operational mock-ups of the interior of the shuttle flight decks and are accompanied by shuttle training manuals, actual operational procedures, and flight simulation software. Astronauts could train for shuttle flights in these simulators, according to Dean.
Dean is collaborating on the project with Frank Hughes the retired Chief of NASA Space Flight Training and president of Tietronix Software.

They will be training the museum staff, volunteers, and board members on its operations.
The simulator will be incorporated into museum tours starting this Summer.
The Patricia Huffman Smith NASA Museum ‘Remembering Columbia’ serves as a memorial to the 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy and as an educational facility dedicated to creating science and technology-inspiring learning opportunities for children and adults.
