‘Of Good Courage’ documentary available for purchase at Hemphill museum

HEMPHILL, TX – DVD copies of the documentary ‘Of Good Courage’ are available for purchase at the Patricia Huffman Smith NASA Museum in Hemphill.

A Glass Finch production of a Conway Brown film, the 60-minute documentary tells the true story of courage and sacrifice following the 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy.

On February 1, 2003, Columbia disintegrated upon reentry into Earth’s atmosphere, taking the lives of the seven brave crew and raining debris on rural East Texas. The tragedy brought Sabine County together like nothing before, as volunteers assembled to recover the crew members and debris as part of what would become the largest land-based search and recovery operation in human history.

‘Of Good Courage’ tells the story of the individuals who rose to the call of duty and became small town heroes that day.

Belinda Gay and Marsha Cooper, of the Sabine County Columbia Memorial Committee served as executive producers of the project. Olga Hamby Page, David Wayne Brown, and David Perry served as producers. The film was directed by Brown and Perry, with associate producer Melanie Towery and director of photography Eric Wilson. Brown also provided additional writing and Perry served as editor. Music was selected by Chris Nemec and Kevin Macleod. Final editing and DVD design was completed by Matt and Tia King.

Featured interviews include NASA Administrator Sean O’Keefe, Sabine County Judge Jack Leath, Sabine County Sheriff Tom Maddox, Don Iles, Greg Cohrs, Marsha Cooper, Doug Hamilton, Tommy Scales, Terry Lane, Jan Amen, Paul Alan Pruitt, Bobby Young, Roger Gay, Belinda Gay, Hank Lavigne, Staci Byrd, Kim Fox, Letha Irving, Hyvie McCowan, Marie Nelson, Reece Trotty, Faye Broadway, Jimmy Brown, Ronnie Horton, Cecil Paul Mott, Fred Raney, Joe Singleton, Janis Speights, John “Squeaky” Starr, Mark Griffin, Mike Terry, Steve Mills, Sunny Whittington, Haley Edgar, Kaitlyn Smith, and Belinda Simmons.
