2nd annual golf tournament to benefit Hemphill ‘Remembering Columbia’

HEMPHILL, TX – Golfers of all skill levels are invited to hit the links for a great cause at one of the most renowned waterfront golf courses in western Louisiana and eastern Texas.

On Saturday, October 10, 2020, Cypress Bend Resort on Toledo Bend Lake in Many, Louisiana will host a golf tournament benefiting the Patricia Huffman Smith NASA Museum ‘Remembering Columbia.’ The event had been rescheduled from April due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The format for the tournament is a four-person scramble with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. Entrance fees are $500 per team, which includes greens fees, food, and cart fees. Refreshments will be served on the course. Mulligans will also be available for purchase. COVID-19 safety protocols will be observed, including wearing masks indoors and limiting the number of occupants per golf cart.

Following the tournament, awards and prizes will go to the winning team and winners of several contests, including longest drive, closest to the pin, and hole-in-one. Prizes include Taylor Made gift cards, drivers, apparel, and more. Those competing for a hole-in-one will have multiple opportunities to win a $15 thousand Tractor Supply package, a head-to-toe Travis Mathew signature golf outfit and $500 online shopping spree, a year’s supply of Bridgestone golf balls, a set of Cobra King F8 irons, as well as $50 thousand from American Hole-In-One to be split among the golfer and the museum.

The always-picturesque Cypress Bend Resort treats players to a round of challenging golf on championship course featuring crisp country air and dramatic views of the lake, hill and spectacular landscaping.

The 2nd annual tournament is presented by friends of the Patricia Huffman Smith NASA Museum ‘Remembering Columbia,’ located in Hemphill, Texas.

The museum serves as a memorial to the 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy and as an educational facility dedicated to creating science and technology-inspiring learning opportunities for children and adults.

Area businesses and organizations, as well as individuals, are invited to support the non-profit’s mission of inspiring the ‘Next Greatest Generation’ through sponsorships of the golf tournament.

Hole sponsors at the $100 will have their organization’s name featured on placards on the course greens. At the $500 level, tee-off sponsors will be able to have a banner placed at the tournament site. Event sponsors at the $3,000 level will have their name/logo featured on the greens, as well as provided space to set up a table or tent to promote their business or organization. Major sponsors will receive the benefits of the other levels, as well as being included in tournament promotional materials, online publicity, as well as being named an honorary member of the museum, with their name being included on the wall of supporters.
