HEMPHILL, TX – Kendall Murry, a graduating senior from Shelbyville High School, is the recipient of the 2023 ‘Remembering Columbia’ Memorial Scholarship.
A project of the Patricia Huffman Smith NASA Museum in Hemphill, Texas, the scholarship is awarded annually to students pursuing a college degree in a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts or Mathematics) field. Students must submit an application and essays, as well as demonstrate leadership and good character while in high school.
Murry, who is graduating with a 4.0 GPA, plans to attend Panola College in the Fall. She is the daughter of Mick and Ramona Murry, both educators in the Shelbyville Independent School District.
Murray was awarded a $500 stipend this week by museum board member Veronica Thomas and Tammy Williams of Shelby Savings Bank, representing ‘Friends of the Museum.’
The Patricia Huffman Smith NASA Museum ‘Remembering Columbia’ serves as a memorial to the 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy and as an educational facility dedicated to creating science and technology-inspiring learning opportunities for children and adults.
