HEMPHILL, TX – Senior leadership of the Johnson Space Center in Houston held a retreat on November 7, 2023 at the ‘Remembering Columbia’ Museum.
Organized by Director Vanessa Wyche, the visit to Hemphill gave JSC employees an opportunity to tour the museum, meet board members and staff, and learn about the close partnership between the organizations.
Students from Hemphill and West Sabine ISDs also filled the museum’s Dr. WT Arnold, Sr. Theater for a presentation for NASA leadership, including Stephen A. Koerner, the deputy director of the Johnson Space Center. They led a fascinating discussion about NASA’s plans for human spaceflight and exploration missions through 2040 and what it will take to get there.
Students also got advice on the many career paths available in the aerospace industry and got to meet astronaut Kjell Lindgren.
The Patricia Huffman Smith NASA Museum ‘Remembering Columbia’ serves as a memorial to the 2003 Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy and as an educational facility dedicated to creating science and technology-inspiring learning opportunities for children and adults.
