2024 recipient selected for ‘Remembering Columbia’ memorial scholarship

HEMPHILL, TX – The Patricia Huffman Smith NASA Museum is pleased to announce Chalee Gibbs as the recipient of its 2024 ‘Remembering Columbia’ Memorial Scholarship.

Gibbs, a recent graduate of Hemphill High School, has been accepted to Stephen F. Austin State University and plans to attend in the Fall. On Wednesday, ‘Remembering Columbia’ Museum board member Veronica Thomas presented Gibbs with a $500 stipend at Hemphill High School’s Senior Scholarship Recognition Night.

As part of its mission, ‘Friends of the Museum’ established this annual scholarship program to recognize an incoming college freshman student who has demonstrated leadership and good character while in high school and has committed to pursuing a two or four-year college degree in a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts or Mathematics) field. Applicants must submit an application that includes a biographical narrative and essay.

Information about the 2025 application period will be announced early next year.
