Retired NASA international spaceflight training manager to speak at ‘Remembering Columbia’ Museum

HEMPHILL, TX – In early May, the Patricia Huffman Smith NASA Museum will host its third ‘Night At The Museum’ event of the year, this time featuring a retired NASA international spaceflight training manager.

Debbie Ramos Trainor will deliver a keynote in the museum’s auditorium from 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 2. The event is free for the community. Light refreshments will be served and door prizes will also be given out.

Trainor retired with 30 years of combined federal service from the Air Force and NASA.

As a proud member of NASA’s Mission Operations team for over two decades, she held various training management positions including a one-year tour as the NASA training coordinator in Star City, Russia, and as the Training Manager for the first crew to fly on the International Space Station. Her last position with NASA was training manager for Astronaut Candidate training.

She was highlighted as one of NASA’s inspirational women for Women’s Month in March of 2009 and 2014. In September 2002, she participated as a NASA representative to the first Latino International Women’s Congress which was held in Puerto Rico.

Trainor has an Associate of Arts degree in Computer Science, Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematical Sciences and an MBA.

Hailing from Pasadena, Texas, she cherishes her Texan roots and Mexican heritage, drawing strength from her diverse background. Trainor’s journey reflects a deep sense of gratitude towards her upbringing, education at a Catholic school, and unwavering support from family and friends. These foundational pillars have shaped her career and enabled her numerous successes. They are all part of her tortilla foundation.

Trainor is also the author of ‘Tortillas to Astronauts,’ which is a heartfelt tale of dreams, family, and the incredible journey that transformed a young girl’s life into a space-age adventure.

She will autograph copies of her book at the museum on Friday.

The museum is currently coordinating a “road trip” speaking tour on Thursday, May 1. Trainor will speak at a select number of rural schools in western Louisiana or eastern Texas that day.

On Friday, she will offer presentations for school groups/field trips to the museum in Hemphill, ahead of ‘A Night At The Museum’ that evening.

Interested educators should contact the museum directly to confirm availability to accommodate your group.
